Legal now in the USA? How fast things can change! When we started the journey back in August of 2008, there were few people that we met that new anything about stem cell therapy, now it seems you can't go a few days without hearing something about it in the news.
While we in China, President Obama signed into law the ability for stem cell research to start up again. Basically "undoing" everything that former President Bush did to stop research on stem cell therapy. The first clinical research study is about to begin and will be focused on spinal cord injury patients. The study will last a year and a half.
While this is amazing and everything that we have hoped for, realistically we are probably 3-5 years away before we can stay home for treatments.
Why China? Former President Bush vetoed the legislation that would have helped “catch up” with the rest of the world when it comes to Stem Cell Research. Of the few countries currently practicing Stem Cell Therapy, China has spent billions on research and technology and is the world leader.

UMBILICAL CORD BLOOD: Research has shown that umbilical cord blood, which in the past has been routinely discarded after a baby is born, is a valuable source of potentially life-saving stem cells.
After the birth of a baby, there is (on average) 60-180 ml of blood remaining in the umbilical cord and placenta. This cord blood contains red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets and stem cells.
While controversy continues to surround embryonic stem cell research, we do not know of any religious faith that has opposed the collection, storage, or use of umbilical cord blood.
